Development

At Bern Realty, LLC we’ve had a vision for progress since first opening our doors in the 1960s. As a family-owned firm, we’ve been committed to keeping a small-office feel for our clients who appreciate the personalized approach to our services. At the same time, we’re fixing our eyes on the horizon for opportunities to continue to assist our customers on a larger scale.

The Story of the 1960s and 1970s

The 1960s and 1970s brought Bern Realty into the field of residential single-family homes and multi-family condominiums. Servicing Park Ridge, River Forest, and Chicago, Bern found itself at the forefront of development in a time when single-family home subdivision communities blossomed, and multi-building California-style walk-up apartment communities found their footing in Rosemont. Around the same time, townhouse communities were on the rise. Understanding customers were looking for more than just living space, Bern Realty spearheaded efforts to create these communities complete with parks, open green spaces, pools, community shopping center and a clubhouse. Beyond the brick and mortar, Bern Realty knew early on that where you live should be a comprehensive experience. We brought that vision to reality in Wood Dale.

Innovation in the 1970s and 1980s

Between 1970 and 1980, Bern Realty spread its wings and found a place for innovative single family and multi-family homes in Parkland, Florida. At the same time, commercial restaurant development provided a new and creative outlet for our professional staff throughout Illinois with projects successfully being completed in River Forest, Rosemont, Addison, and Wood Dale. Where once our team looked exclusively at multi-unit residential communities, we now had a chance to look sky-high at commercial buildings rising six stories and up throughout Chicago suburban communities. Simultaneously, Bern Realty was immersed in the development of 12 gated condominium buildings with clubhouse nucleus in Des Plaines that would ultimately give residents an experience in unmatched convenience with the addition of integrated, enclosed garage parking spaces.

Moving Through the 1990s

Momentum swept Bern Realty into the 1990s with the core of the company still dedicated to providing the ultimate experience in customer service while opportunities to grow continued to present themselves. Bern Realty found itself at the heart of developing several neighborhood shopping centers throughout Illinois as well as automotive centers in Elmwood Park, Lombard, Roselle, Oak Park, and Oak Forest. As Bern Realty’s reputation for excellence grew, so did the contribution of their development sites to the cities in which they were constructed. The 1990s saw Bern Realty credited with the development and finalization of Palos Community Hospital in Orland Park, the School of Robotic Technology in Chicago as well as the Amlings Garden Center.
